Hurricane Irma Update: 9/15/2017

The following is an update from communities impacted by Hurricane Irma. For additional details, please reference the community’s website. LCS has an emergency hotline you may reach should you not be able to contact the community.

8:15 p.m. CDT

  • The Glenview at Pelican Bay. We evacuated in advance of the arrival of Hurricane Irma. Residents and staff arrived safely on Friday afternoon and evening at our temporary residences where we will remain for the duration of the event. Residents are comfortable and in good spirits considering the circumstances. The addresses and phone numbers of our temporary locations are listed below:

It is not safe to return to Glenview campus until further notice. At this point, a return date to Glenview remains uncertain, as our building has sustained major damage. Utility power has been on and off today and FPL reports that intermittent service will be likely for the next few days. The roof is “dried in” with temporary roof repairs preventing any further water intrusion. The disaster restoration company is onsite and has the capacity to power their equipment with their own generators as needed. We continue to work through mechanical repairs to the back-up generator. 24-hour security is being provided at the community and crews are onsite around the clock to address the multiple building issues caused by the storm. Glenview plant operations team members are walking the entire building and taking inventory of needed repairs. This includes a unit-by-unit assessment of each individual residence to take inventory of damage. We are sharing our findings with residents. We are systematically working through this process and we will do everything we can to update everyone on the condition of their apartment by end of day September 16th.  We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work through multiple priorities as quickly as possible. We are proactively making arrangements for longer term accommodations for residents as the extent of damage will require a great deal of repair in order to reoccupy the community.

Health Center residents are residing at Bayshore Memory Care and are enjoying the support and comradery of their fellow residents, staff, family and pets. Bayshore Memory Care is located at 1260 Creekside Blvd E in Naples, FL 34109  Phone: (239) 213-9370. As of 6:55 p.m. ET, Monday, September 11 the power is back on and we have switched from generator power back to utility power. The community is secure and has experienced only minor water intrusion. Phone service and email are spotty. All residents are comfortable and are in good spirits. The community has all the required resources in place including food, water, medical supplies, and staff. Life Care Services is assisting in identifying and transporting to Naples additional caregivers and nursing staff from sister communities throughout the Southeast in order to provide some relief to local team members who have also been personally impacted by storm.

Independent Living residents evacuated to Orlando along with several staff members from Glenview where they are settled into their hotel rooms in Winter Garden. They are in two hotels are connected by an adjacent restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Glenview’s onsite leadership is coordinating with hotel staff to provide meal delivery service from the restaurant for Glenview residents if requested during their stay.  Supplemental staffing from Life Care Services sister communities is providing additional hands and some relief for Glenview’s staff members who evacuated along with the residents in advance of the storm. Additionally, we are doing our best to recreate the Glenview lifestyle here at our home away from home. Group activities, shopping excursions, and special dining events are being offered to help keep spirits high during this trying time. The hotel has power and their staff is providing excellent attention to our group’s needs. Our stay at this location has been extended to Tuesday, September 26, allowing more time to secure proactive arrangements in the event that an extended period for repairs is necessary for safe return to Glenview. The health and well-being of each resident is our primary concern, and many contingency plans are being weighed to ensure the best situation for all residents. The hotel addresses and contact info are listed below. Most residents are residing in the SpringHill Suites.
